HOBSONVILLE POINT MARINE CENTRE

The Hobsonville Point Marine Centre was a project worked on in 2018 as Design and Visual Communications project in my final year of High School. The brief was to design a new building to replace the outdated Yacht Club at Catalina Bay in Hobsonville Point.

Throughout the year I went back and forth with the team behind getting a new Yacht Club built to receive feedback on my designs, giving myself some real world experience for the work. At the end of the project, I presented my refined design ideas to them for some final feedback and comments.

Below you will see the model I built solely using a Laser Cutter for accuracy and to mass produce certain parts. Some things to point out are the more accurate wall thicknesses with multiple layers of MDF, which also allows for the windows to be placed into the model without glue. This meant there was no mess during the assembly of the building. Multiple materials and painted MDF allowed me to have an accurate depiction of what a final built Marine Centre might look like.

The model won the Student Design Award for Kendall Engraving Supplies Ltd in 2018, a nationwide competition throughout schools.
